The intake process is the foundation upon which the structure of the therapeutic relationship is built, there are some important considerations counselors need to keep in mind (Sutton 2013). The purpose of an intake form is to gather past and present information for the therapist or counselor so they can have a better understanding of the client. The information is kept confidential and maybe used to assess client. Does it ask all of the necessary questions to determine what the clientââ¬â¢s presenting problem is? For the most part clientsââ¬â¢ problems were determined from the questions asked on the form that was chosen. The intake form inquired about clientsââ¬â¢ current emotional state and suicidal ideation. It directly asks the client what would they want to accomplish through their therapy session. The form asked clients if they have been through a traumatic experience. It also mentioned family history and history of domestic violence and substance abuse. The form also asked about general health, spiritual history, and personal relationship (i.e. Divorce or Living with Partner). The questions were designed for the clients to give detailed answers and enough information to determine the presenting problem. Although the form did ask several key questions, I find it rather shocking it did not ask about homicidal ideations. Are there too many or too few questions? Why or why not? The sasss was a transition from traditional Jazz into modern Jazz. Leading this transition was the introduction of the Bebop period in Jazz. Bebop created controversy In the Jazz world for being a contradiction to traditional Jazz and was widely disliked by many audiences across America.Despite its controversy, Bebop, also referred to as Bop, was one of the most important eras In the history of Jazz. The technical creations by some of Bebops greatest musicians Influenced future generations of Jazz musicians and transformed the jazz world into the modern era. The word Bebop, according to Bebop artist Dizzy Gillespie, came from people trying to sing the unique melodic leaps. The singing created a distinct bop sound that led to It being referred to as bop or Bebop music (Brenner and Houseman, p. 14). The rhythm and technicalities of the Bebop style were unlike any other used In Jazz fore.This completely different method of Jazz led to the popular accusation that Bebop was not Jazz and many traditional Jazz artists dismissed it as such. And since Bebop could not be danced to, It was largely dismissed by the public as well for not being Jazz music. Although it Is true that Bebop was not classical Jazz and was not typical dancing music, it was in fact the first type of modern jazz to be recorded. The flatted fifth is the most important interval of Bebop and in traditional jazz the flatted fifth would be considered erroneous. Also characteristic of Bebop are the reverse and racing phrases that appeared as melodic fragments.Bebop music left out every unnecessary note giving it a distinct irregularity that had not been present in jazz before 1940 ( Brenner and Houseman, p. 1 5). Other technical characteristics of Bebop uncommon to traditional Jazz were the Bop improvisations composed mostly of eighth-note and sixteenth-note figures which created Jumps and twists within the music. There were also abrupt changes of direction and large intervals between notes. The rhythms in the lines were fast and unpredictable and were marked with an unprecedented amount of syncopation (Griddle and Cutler, p. 37).The era of Bebop followed the most popular era of Jazz before 1940, the Swing era. The swing era had become a popular culture phenomenon due to its relationship to 1 OFF Jazz to move into other areas of culture other than music and dance. The word Swing became a marketing device for consumer goods from cigarettes to womens clothing. The Swing style conformed to the commercial demands of audiences and as a result became consumed by endlessly repeated rhythms. These rhythms became cliche and too trite for some Jazz artists who wanted to created a more technical and modern style. The Swing style had become too commercialism and, as often is the case in Jazz, the evolution turned in the opposite direction in the form of the Bebop period (Brenner and Houseman, p. 14). Thus Bebop was formed as an intended contradiction to the Swing era. The contradiction to Swing music was so strong that Bebop music faced opposition and was accused of not even being Jazz music. Bebop was founded during World War II by young African American musicians who were tired of the repetition and lack of original creativity of the big bands popular in the Swing era.These musicians wanted to create a new style of music that as played by small bands and featured creative solos and irregular rhythms. The founders of Bebop believed their music could not be as easily copied by big bands led by white composers and would be an exclusive type of Jazz. This style began to form in 1940 from the improvisation that took place during the after-hours Jam sessions among Jazz artists. Bebop developed originally in Kansas City and in clubs (particularly in Moutons Playhouse and Monomers Uptown House) in Harlem where the Bebop style would be focused (Gaiter, p. ). With the leadership of three of the most ammos Jazz musicians, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Theologies Monk, Bebop reached its height in the mid sasss. Charlie Parker was one of the most influential and important soloists in Jazz history and was important to the development of the Bebop style. Parker was born in Kansas City, Kansas on August 29, 1920. In 1927 Charlie Parsers family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, an influential center for African American Jazz music in the 20th century. The rich musical culture in Kansas City fostered the development of the young Charlie Parker who began playing alto saxophone in 1933. After Parker left school in 1935 he pursued a career as a professional musician in Kansas City and played among various blues and Jazz groups. In 1939 Parker visited New York, the national center for the music business at the time, for a year and participated in Jam sessions with other musicians. Parsers time spent in New York left him bored with the cliches of the popular Swing style still very common in America.He envisioned a new style of music, contrary to Swing Jazz, that emphasized a new set of techniques. This new style of music which became Bebop would finally reach maturity in the mid sasss led by Charlie Parker (Patrick). In December 1942 Parker Joined Earl Whines big band along with other young Jazz musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie. During Parsers years with the band, he participated in many after-hours Jam sessions with Dizzy and other musicians at clubs in New York. The musicians were working on the new Bebop style of Jazz which Parker had first envisioned when he visited New York.By 1943 Parker and Dizzy introduced their ideas of Bebop to the band, but their songs were never recorded due to a recording ban in the early sasss. After the recording ban was lifted, Parker and Dizzy formed a quintet to play their Bebop style of music and recorded for the Parker and Dizzy Gillespie musical recognition outside New York which they took with them to Los Angels, California. Parker and Gillespie worked successfully in California to spread Bebop to a national audience. Parker continued his work in California until a nervous breakdown due to his heroin and alcohol addiction caused his confinement in Commercial State Hospital.After his release from the Hospital, Parker returned to New York and formed a quintet with Miles Davis, Duke Jordan, Tommy Potter, and Max Roach. The quintet recorded some of Parsers most famous Bebop pieces, and the years 1947-1951 were Charlie Parsers most productive. The few years left in Parsers life from 1951-1955 were marked with depression and his failing health. Parker lost his performers license in July 1951 and his career fell into sharp decline. Parker attempted suicide twice during the last few years of his life and finally died at the age of thirty four in a Manhattan apartment on March 12, 1955 (Patrick).Charlie Parsers legacy would achieve elite status following his death among the Jazz world as Bebop became more widely accepted by Jazz audiences. Dizzy Gillespie was another influential musician during the Bebop period. Dizzy was born in Chewer, South Carolina on October 21, 1917. At a young age Tizzys musical proficiency was evident when he taught himself to play the trombone and trumpet and later the coronet. Dizzy attended the Laurelling Institute and played trumpet in the school band. In 1937 Dizzy moved to New York and earned a Job with Teddy Hills big band and toured in Europe.Dizzy played with various bands while in New York and while on Tour in 1940 Dizzy met Charlie Parker, and soon he began participating in the after-hours Jam sessions with Parker that led to the creation of Bebop. In 1941 Dizzy worked with many Jazz leaders including Lucky Milliner and Earl Hines. By 1944 Dizzy had recorded near-bop music and Joined Billy Stockinets bebop band along with Charlie Parker. At the same time Dizzy was playing for Billy Stickiness, he recorded some of his own small group bebop pieces with Charlie Parker including Salt Peanuts and Hot House. Dizzy and Parsers collaboration continued when they formed a quintet in 1945 which lasted a few years. Tizzys desire to lead a big band led him to form many big bands in the years following the sasss; and his efforts as a pioneer in modern Jazz helped cement his legacy as one of the great artists of Jazz. Dizzy Gillespie died in Englewood, New Jersey on January 6, 1993 (Owens). The incredible talent and popularity of Dizzy on his trumpet contributed to and helped spread the Bebop style. Theologies Monk along with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie also contributed to the Bebop style of Jazz.Monk was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on October 10, 1917 and at the age of four he moved to New York. In the early sasss he became the house pianist at Moutons Playhouse in Harlem where he collaborated with Parker and Gillespie to formulate the Bebop style. Monk continued to work in Bebop music and performed in Tizzys orchestra in 1944 (Blake). Much of Monks music career was not focused during the Bebop era, but his contribution to the founding of Bebop made him an important artist to Bebop music.Monk was the most famous Bebop pianist in the sasss and he continued playing Jazz piano for the remainder of his music career achieving worldwide renown. The Bebop style was developed by some of Jazz history most talented artists. Even though Bebop music was composed by incredible music geniuses, it remained controversial Bebop was generally disliked by the white fans of Jazz music and traditional African American Jazz musicians. Many traditional Jazz audiences and artists in reaction to this new turn in evolution in Jazz oriented themselves backward toward the basic forms of Jazz.There was a New Orleans Jazz revival during the sasss in response to the Bebop era, and simple music was demanded by the mass Jazz audience. The revival did not last long among the African American musicians because the revival soon turned to cliches and simplified forms of traditional Jazz, but it remained popular among the white audiences (Brenner and Houseman, p. 16) The Bebop period seemed to be a great antagonist to traditional Jazz and the New Orleans Revival. This antagonist aura of Bebop subjected its highly talented musicians to ridicule and contributed to the lack of support from the music business for Bebop music.Bebop did, however, have a large following among the young African American audience. Many of the African American artists who played Bebop music were young and related to a young audience. Many young African Americans no longer supported jazz the way they once did and thus accepted Bebop for its anti-traditional Jazz sound. Bebop was most popular among African American populations in big cities above the Mason- Dixon Line. The white audience rejected Bebop mainly because it did not have a regular step count and they could not dance to it.But despite Bebops irregular rhythm, African Americans figured a way to make the fast tempos by cutting time in half, and they were dancing to the music. By cutting time in half they could incorporate old dances such as the Lindy Hop or new dances such as the The Apple lace, (Gaiter, p. 5). Bebop did not appeal to a mass audience and earn as much revenue like the Swing movement, but more importantly it created an identity for the young African American population in the sasss Bebop music was not received well y the masses, but the impact it would have on the modern Jazz movement would prove its great importance in Jazz history.Over the years since 1940 Bebop has become the quintessential form of classical modernity in Jazz. A revival in Bebop, that nobody predicted, occurred in the sasss and is still continuing into the twenty first century. The importance of Bebop to new generations of Jazz artists can be summed up in a quote from Scott Devalue, a renowned author and professor of Jazz: In order to understand Jazz, you have to understand bebop (Brenner and Houseman, p. 17). The pioneers of Bebop, Parker, Gillespie, Monk, and others, propelled the Jazz world out of the classical era into the modern era.

Subcultures Four of the subcultures that I am a part of are first, being a mother, second a student at EACC, third, an Arkansas Razorbacks fan and finally, my religion. Being a mother is the most important subculture that I am a part of. It is what I spend most of my time doing. It is a 24 hour a day 7 days a week job, but I would not change anything. Most people who are mothers have the same values, and that is to raise happy, healthy and successful children. I would say the language used as a mother changes as your children grow older. The second subculture I am a part of is being a student at EACC. This is something that is new to me. I imagine that the values of the people going to EACC are to get an education to better themselves, that is why I am here. The values of most Christians is to believe in God and do what is right, and that is what I try to do. The language while at church is mainly speaking about God. I have never been a part of a counterculture. Iââ¬â¢m a go with the flow type of person. I donââ¬â¢t like to go against the norm, so a counter culture would not be something that I would ever see myself a part of. The difference in a counterculture and a subculture, is that a counterculture is not widely accepted in society, and subcultures are very common, and accepted in our society.

Analysis: Comparison 1 - Taking the average of all measurements and comparing it to the average relative humidity from the prior year it was found that the average relative humidity had dropped one percent. Taking the average of each stations relative humidity, it was found that all stations within 10 miles from deforestation had an average of two percent lower that stations at least 50 miles from deforestation. Comparison 3 ? Taking the average relative humidity for the last month from all stations and comparing it to the first months average it was found that the average had dropped .5 percent over the year. Conclusion: The findings suggest that deforestation is affecting the amount of rainfall in Brazil. The deforestation will not only continue to affect rainfall but will lead to increased global warming as evaporative cooling decreases. Evaporative cooling takes place when solar energy, or heat, is used to convert water from trees to water vapor or humidity.

The Bessemer Steel Process The Bessemer Steel Process was a methodà of producing high-quality steel by shooting air into molten steel to burn off carbon and other impurities. It was named after the British inventor Sir Henry Bessemer, who worked to develop the process in the 1850s. While Bessemer was working on his process in England, an American, William Kelly, developed a process using the same principle, which he patented in 1857. Both Bessemer and Kelly were responding to a pressing need to refine the methods of manufacturing steel so it would be entirely reliable.à In the decades before the Civil War steel was produced in great quantities. But the quality of it often varied widely. And with large machines, such as steam locomotives, and large structures, such as suspension bridges, being planned and built, it was necessary to manufacture steel that would perform as expected. The new method of producing reliable steel revolutionized the steel industry and made widespread advances possible in railroads, bridge-building, construction, and shipbuilding. Henry Bessemer The British inventor of the greatly improved steel process was Henry Bessemer, who was born in Charlton, England, on January 19, 1813. Bessemers father operated a type foundry, which made mechanical type used in printing presses. He had devised a method of hardening the metal he used, which made his type last longer than type made by his competitors. Growing up around the type foundry, young Bessemer became interested in building things of metal and in coming up with his own inventions. When he was 21à years old, he devised a stamping machine which would be useful to the British government, which routinely stamped important legal documents. The government praised his innovation, yet, in a bitter episode, it refused to pay him for his idea. Embittered by the experience with the stamping machine, Bessemer became very secretive about his further inventions. He came up with a method for manufacturing gold paint to be used for decorative items such as picture frames. He kept his methods so secret that outsiders were never allowed to see the machines used to add metal chips to the paint. Bessemer Contribution to the Steel Industry In the 1850s, during the Crimean War, Bessemer became interested in solving a major problem for the British military. It was possible to produce more accurate cannons by rifling the bores, which meantà cutting groves in the cannon barrel so the projectiles would rotate as they exited. The problem with rifling the cannons commonly used was that they were made of iron, or of low quality steel, and the barrels could explode if the rifling created weaknesses. The solution, Bessemer reasoned, would create steel of such high quality that it could reliably be used to make rifled cannons. Bessemers experiments indicated that injecting oxygen into the steel-making process would heat the steel to such a level that impurities would burn off. He devised a furnace that would inject oxygen into the steel. The impact of Bessemers innovation was dramatic. Suddenly it was possible to make steel of high quality, and high quantities that could be manufactured ten times faster. What Bessemer perfected turned the making of steel into an industry with limitations into a very profitable venture. Impact on Business The manufacturing of reliable steel created a revolution in business. The American businessman Andrew Carnegie, during his business trips to England in the years following the Civil War, took special note of the Bessemer process. In 1872 Carnegie visited a plant in England which was using Bessemerââ¬â¢s method, and he realized the potential of producing the same quality of steel in America. Carnegie learned everything he could about steel production and began using the Bessemer Process at mills he owned in America. By the mid-1870s Carnegie was heavily involved in steel production. In time Carnegie would dominate the steel industry, and high-quality steel would make possible the building of factories which defined the industrialization of America in the late 1800s. The reliable steel produced by the Bessemer process would be used in countless miles of railroad tracks, vast numbers of ships, and in the frames of skyscrapers. Bessemer steel would also be used in the sewing machine, machine tools, farm equipment, and other vital machinery. After exploration, the following presenting problems are observed: Constantly bullied by classmates Avoid joining group activities Fear about bullying and cry suddenly in the class Aim of the assessment The aim of the assessment is: To gather the basic information of the client about personal, family, school and social network To study the underlying factors contributing to the presenting problems and To find out the facts those trigger the problems so that an intervention plan could be set up to help the client. Brief Social History The worker had conducted four personal interviews and based on the interview sessions conducted with the client, the following information is gathered. Genogram/family background and relationship The parents of Judy were divorced since she was in primary school and thus she was brought up in a single parent family. Judys father lives in Mainland China and he does not contact with the family. The three family members: Madam Wong, Andy and Judy live together. The mother: Madam Wong, 44 years old, works as a cleaner and she is the only bread winner of the family. Andy Cheung: elder brother of Judy is 15 years old attending F.2 at a different school from Judy. Emotional condition The client was observed to be upset with the situation she is being bullied. Moreover, she did not want to disclose much about her problems and she was not convinced that others could understand and help her. She also felt that she is not as capable as her brother in doing not very well with her school lessons. Living condition The client lives together with her mother and elder brother at a public housing flat. Financial condition The mother, Madam Wong is the main bread winner of the family and the monthly income was unobserved. History of violence/abuse There is not serious case of violence according to the workers observation. However, the worker had studied that the client had been constantly bullied by her classmates at school. She was hit and her belongings were destroyed sometimes. Supportive network The client had some friends at the previous school she attended but she does not have any friends at the current school. The client told the worker that although she reported to the teacher about the issue, those who bullied her did not stop bullying and she does not think it is a good idea to report the teacher. Moreover, she does not want to tell her mother about her problems and feelings since she does not want to bother her. It seems that the mother alone would be her supportive network since she mentioned during the interview that her mother would listen to her if she discloses her feelings. Coping strengths The worker assessed that she does not know how to cope with the problem except crying and according to the client, reporting to the teacher did not work. Case conceptualization Core issues referred by the school teacher a) Avoid joining group activities in the class b) Cry suddenly in the class sometimes c) Constantly bullied, belongings are destroyed and hit by classmates Workers perception of the core issues The worker identified based on the personal interviews conducted that a) The client lacks self confidence and self esteem Since she stated that she was not doing well at school and she is not as clever as her brother. b) The belief of the client that there is nobody who cares and understand her The client mentioned that talking with other people (eg. Teacher and family) would help and they would not listen to her nor understand her. According to cognitive theorists, most social and behavioral dysfunction is derived from misconceptions that people hold about themselves, other people and situations (Hepworth, 2006). In this case, the self-defeating belief of the client that she is not as capable as others and that there is no one who can help/understand her had led her to emotional and behavioral consequences that block her to be a confident and capable girl. Analysis of the problem The worker analyses the case by applying the Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), using the ABC model which was created by Albert Allis (Corey, 2005). A (activating event) B (belief) C (emotional and behavioral consequences) D (disputing intervention) E (effect) F (new feelings) In this case, the worker conceptualized that the irrational beliefs of the client that she is bullied and maltreated because there is no one who understands her and that she is incapable triggered her to be depressed and to be away from the social environment at school. The worker strongly believes that once the client can detect what her irrational beliefs are, the client could be helped with the disputing interventions to debate her dysfunctional beliefs by herself to solve the problem and to be a confident girl. Strengths and opportunities The worker had identified the following strengths and opportunities of the client during the interview sessions: Strengths: Good friends (social life) at primary school. This implies that she does not lack socialization skills Helping her mother with household chores. It means she is a considerate daughter and she has a strong affection to her mother. Express understanding towards the clients through basic attending skills such as faced the client squarely, adopted the open posture, leaned towards the client, maintained good eye contact and relaxed while interacting with the client. In these ways of basic attending skills, I expressed empathetic attending, understanding and willingness to help. It helped the client to be willing in expressing her feelings and problems. Using verbal and non-verbal attending skills such as eye contact with the client, facial expression, and minimal encouragers. It encouraged the client to be more willing to talk. It also showed that I was listening to the client carefully. I used follow up questions like open-ended questions to confirm what the client had said so that there would not be any misunderstandings. Clarifying and verifying what the client had told the worker I clarified/verified what the client had told me by using phrases like it appears to me that and questions like oh you want to is that what are saying? It helped to discriminate the misunderstanding and confusion that can occur if I did not clarify or verify what the client had told and if I interpret in my own perception. Paraphrasing and Summarizing It was effective in a sense that I could express my understanding about the client and that I had been listening carefully and finding a way to help the client. Using of open questions and miracle question I used open questions to explore what the client had said for better understanding. Moreover, I also asked the clients perception on problem solving by asking What do you think you can do to stop the bully? Although it did not help the client solve the problem completely, it helped the client think about what she could do to cope with the problem. I also used the questions to explore the clients wants and goals by asking How do you want your classmates to treat you? What kind of situation do you want? and What if ? By asking these questions, the client voiced out what she wants and what she wants to be like which can result in goal setting. Strengths and weaknesses in the intervention During the intervention process, I evaluate the strengths of mine that I had a pretty good engagement with the client applying basic communication and helping skills. The use of appropriate questioning and clarifying worked to identify the problem and in detecting what the client wants and needs. As weaknesses, I needed to improve more on rapport building to gain the trust of the client. More practice on follow up questions and leading questions so as to make the client more articulating to disclose her problems. In reflecting my learning, this practice session helped me a lot to build up my skills needed in social work practice. Moreover, I have learned a lot about the effectiveness of the skills and what more could have been done to boost up my skills to be a good professional. Ralph's Leadership in William Goldingââ¬â¢s Lord of the Flies Ralph, the elected leader of the group of British boys in William Goldingââ¬â¢s Lord of the Flies, strives to take the civilized society to which he is accustomed and apply it to society on the island on which he and the other boys are stranded. As leader, this task seems simple ââ¬â tell the other boys what they each need to do and expect them to do it. Ralph fails to realize the difference between the rest of the boys and himself. The world is in the middle of a massive war, a war in which the threat of the atomic bomb looms prominently. In fear of losing all its future fighting force, Britain sends a group of its schoolboys on an airplane to safety. Before reaching its destination, though, an enemy fighter plane shoots down the boysââ¬â¢ plane. The plane crashes into a forest on a remote island and, as a result, the pilots die. This group of schoolboys jumps from a society in which adults direct them to act properly to one in which there is no authoritative figure to give them orders. Back in Britain, adults train the boys to obey them and follow their lead. They act appropriately because of the threat of punishment for disobedience. Even later in the novel, once things begin to fall apart, Golding writes, ââ¬Å"Here, invisible yet strong, was the taboo of the old life. Round the squatting child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the lawâ⬠(62). As the story progresses, though the boys go so far as to participate in savage acts such as killing each other, in the end, they realize that they conducted themselves immorally. Stranded on the island with a bunch of boys and no adults, Ralph quickly takes charge and demands the election of a leader of the bo... ...ings a type of closure to the ordeal, and it also shows a realization he had about society, about mankind in general. He has witnessed with his own eyes the evil that comes about as a result of the lack of civilization and the inborn nature to do evil. Golding describes Ralphââ¬â¢s profound crying simply: ââ¬Å"Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of manââ¬â¢s heart, and the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggyâ⬠(202). While nearly all the boys on the island ignore those standards British society has taught them, Ralph does not, and, as leader, tries to apply them to society on the island. Even when everyone else reverts to his inborn evil nature, Ralph sticks with that which is good, that which he learned from British society ââ¬â civility. Ralph is different than the other boys, and because of that difference, it is only fitting that he cry.

Persuasive Student Parking
Dear Principal, I am writing to let you know that I am completely happy with the recent policy of numbered parking spaces. Parking at school is much more convenient now, and knowing the school has more information about parking lot activity is great. I am also very pleased that I have no longer been tardy or searched for an open space. It truly has been better with this rule in effect. First of all, the school should have knowledge about what is happening in the parking lot. Knowing where each student's designated parking spots are prevents vandalism. It also prevents the students from skipping class because the faculty can check if your car is in the designated parking space. In the same way it is nice for the staff to know where each student car is, it is just as great for me to know exactly where im going. I no longer have to drive in circles around the lot, searching for an open space. Stepping into the crisp, bitter cold in the morning is bad enough, staying in it even longer than necessary is just plain awful. Which bring me to my last point. I have not been tardy since the new parking rules. The traffic has been cut down tremendously, allowing me to get to my parking space very quickly. I no longer feel rushed or overwhelmed that i will be late, and that is a great way to start the day. As a result of reading the previous information, i urge you to please keep this rule enforced. I think the benefits you and the staff have recieved from knowing where each students car is just as great as the students starting off the morning going directly to their spot and getting to class on time! Comparing Nothing's Changed and Charlotte O'Neil's Song Both poets are protesting about the injustices and inequalities of their own respective cultures. In "Nothing's Changed" Afrika protests about the differences in the way that black and white people are treated in South Africa. The poem illustrates how, although the South African apartheid system was abolished in the early 1990s nothing had really changed beyond paperwork. Afrika was once quoted in an interview as saying "We may have a new constitution, we may have on the face of it all a beautiful democracy, but the racism in this country is widespread. We try to pretend to the world that it does not exist but it most certainly does, all day long, every day, shocking and saddening and terrible." He reinforces these feelings in his poem. He begins the poem in a calm mood. He describes his walk down the path towards district six in a calm, almost leisurely way. When he reaches district six the sense of calm leaves and the anger in the poem starts to become apparent. He talks about how there is no sign to show the name of the area but he can feel it. "No board says it is: But my feet know, And my hands, And the skin about my bones, And the soft labouring of my lungs, And the hot, white, inwards turning Anger of my eyes." It would seem that he does not have good memories of this place. His immediate change of mood as he nears district six seems to show his feelings towards the area. We start to get the feeling that whatever has happened here has affected him deeply and personally. Afrika is outraged by the hidden racism in his country. Even though by law black, white and coloured people are considered equal in practise quite the reverse is true. In the poem he describes a white's only inn. He uses quite harsh language in his description. "Brash with glass, Name flaring like a flag, It squats, In the grass and the weeds Incipient Port Jackson trees: New, up-market, haute cuisine, Guard at the gate post, Whites only inn" There is a lot of personification in this description. The word brash suggests the arrogance of the place. The name flaring like a flag is suggestive of the inn displaying its conquest of the area. Simply by being there Afrika feels that the inn has committed a great atrocity as it is a place where a coloured man would obviously not be welcome even in the absence of apartheid. The word squats I think is not as though it were sitting but as though it were occupying the land illegally. Incipient literally means imported.

Women in The Handmaid's Tale and The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath's renowned autobiographical legend "The Bell Jar" and Margaret Atwood's fictional masterpiece "The handmaid's tale" are the two emotional feminist stories, which basically involve the women's struggle. Narrated with a touching tone and filled with an intense feminist voice, both novels explore the conflict of their respective protagonists in a male dominated society. In spite of several extraordinary similarities in terms of influential characterization and emotive themes, both novels are diverse as far as their respective style, structure and setting is concerned. While Plath's preference of frequent flashback is admirable and absorbing, Atwood's choice of presenting her novel in terms of headed chapters that alternate between her peaceful past and chaotic present is, indeed, fascinating. On the contrary, although Atwood's symbolic style enriched with biblical metaphors is ironical and inspiring, Plath's touching use of meaningful motifs and descriptive imag ery suits its admiration as one of the best autobiographical fiction. "The Bell Jar" penned by Sylvia Plath, is a tragic tale of Esther Greenwood, her depressing experiences of life and social relationship and her eventual mental breakdown resulting with her attempts of committing suicide. On the other hand, Margaret Atwood's award winning novel "The Handmaid's Tale" depicts the haunting experiences of Gilead, where sexual repression and religious extremism was not uncommon. Both novels have female protagonist, who are victims of rape and sexual violence. Marco, a guy on a blind date with Esther, calls her a "slut" and tries to rape her, and Esther's struggle can be reveal... ...w did I know that someday . . . the bell jar, with its stifling distortions, wouldn't descend again?" (The Bell Jar, p.296). In a nutshell, "The Bell Jar" and "The Handmaid's tale", are indeed, literary gems in the field of feminist literature that would definitely satisfy the literary thirst of their aspiring readers. The other students (non-disabled) learn about disabilities and how to get past their fears about disabilities and find out about the person inside. Question like should all students, even students with disabilities be included in a regular education class. Teacherââ¬â¢s must ask themselves the pros and cons of full inclusion in the classroom. As a future teacher examined the pros and cons of full inclusion and my position on full inclusion of all disabled children. Some of the positive things about full inclusion of all students include that children with special needs get to socialize with normal developing children, and hence is learning skills needed for life. The other students (non-disabled) learn about disabilities and how to get past their fears about disabilities and find out about the person inside. If inclusion is done at an early age, ââ¬Å"normalâ⬠students develop empathy at an early age. Students with disabilities develop confidence when included in a regular classroom, they also develop contacts, and friendships through different ages. The students with special needs are included with their peers in their age group as part of a group, if they are separated from the peer group they become one of the kids in THAT class.
